I decided to revert back to the original Europa design of the fuel system as the system was starting to get complicated in a simple way, if you can understand my meaning !!!
The fuel system now only has 1 Andair Gascolator, this is upstream from the fuel pump which in now mounted in the baggage bay as in the manual. The reason was, where ever I mounted it, the pipes seem very close to the rudder cables, I could have got around this by adding another platform but that was yet another mod !!!
The fuel filters are as described in the manual and in the seat pans. The water drains are as described in the standard mod for fitting them. The only thing I would have dun different, would have been to put the drains in the sear pan too and made a cover to stop them getting damaged by siting on them.
I had already made the cover for the original design of two Gascolator as the filters. I did make the mistake of mounting them too low that is why I have a curved panel now, but it came in handy when mounting the water drains in the cover and I lost the vertical curve of the rubber pipes be adding a 90 degree bend to the water drains.
One of the main reasons for going with this design is the advice of my inspector. (Nev Eyer) which is “KEEP IT SIMPLE” and it will always work, on top of that, the paperwork (Mod Application) is a lot less hassle. LAA will guarantee you have to alter it about 5 times before they are satisfied. Their really is nothing wrong with the glass filters they are better than they look, Cheep to replace, simple to clean, you can see what’s in them a long time before they get blocked. USE CLEAN FRESH FUEL.
