Okay, so I decided that I need to get this thing on the gear before it gets too heavy. I started by drilling the tail spring titanium rod. I measured correctly, but I didn't have the rod perfectly squared in the vise and centered with the drill in the press. Turns out the holes on opposite ends of the rod are not perfectly 90 degrees to each other. This would make the tail wheel not sit flush to the ground.
So, $120 later for a tail pivot fitting and new spring rod that are both on backorder, I should be able to try this again. The holes I drilled look really nice though;) Slow rpm on the drill press with even pressure and plently of cutting oil makes really nice holes in the titanium.
