Brief Description:  Fitted and Drilled Rudder Drive Horn Brackets

Tonight I was finally able to get back to actually working on the first plans sheet, assembling the rudder. I spent last weekend in Oshkosh with my dad at the Sonex workshop and the first of this week traveling for work. I fitted, pilot drilled, final drilled and deburred the drive horn components. I used my new arbor press tonight for the first time when bending the 5.2 degree angle on the rudder drive horn. Everything turned out nicely, especially since I viewed Kerry Fores' demonstration video for bending thick metal using a similar press. The video is on the EAA homebuilders website as well as being linked to the Sonex site.

Now I just have to decide if I am really going to prime all mating sufaces. Sonex says that it's not necessay, but as an A&P your taught to always apply some form of corrosion prevention when assembling metal components.

I'm also waiting on my hardware kits to arrive from Aircraft Spruce. I will need the piano hinge from the kit to finish the rudder assembly.
