Brief Description:  Background

As I sit down to write this post, I can't help but think back to many years ago when I first started dreaming about one day building a kit aircraft. I can remember my childhood friend and I plotting our way clear to Australia from the USA in our own kit aircraft. Fast forward 25 years to the present...my how things have turned out so very different than the "original plan."

I am a licensed A&P mechanic and have been involved in aviation, in some form or fashion, since I was 15 years old. I have mainly worked for major airlines as a line and heavy check mechanic on everything from the 727 to the MD-11 and 747-400. I am currently employed with an international charter airline as a technical instructor and training developer.

I am not a private pilot or even a sport pilot, but I have logged over 100 hours in a quicksilver ultralight over many years. I will be pursuing my sport pilot license while I build my aircraft.

I've researched several different kit aircraft, but in every aspect the Waiex kit from Sonex won out. The reasonable cost to build, factory support, sporty looks, and people familiar with the Sonex construction made it an easy decision.
