Brief Description:  ELT, rear panel, seat belts

With delivery of an ELT today I proceeded to make the installation. A bracket for the antenna was fabricated from angle stock and a backing doubler for the ELT mounting bracket. I decided to mount botht eh ELT and its antenna to the removable side cover over the flap actuator arm on the pilot's side. The brackets and panel were drilled together and deburred. The mount, panel and doubler were drilled, holes deburred and dimpled or countersunk. Bracket and panel and mount, panel and doubler were riveted. Panel was installed in fuselage and ELT slipped into mount. I am really pleased with this location.

The rear panels separating the cabin from the tail cone were installed with just a few screws. I will wait on remaining screws until I get some painted to match.

Seat belts and shoulder harnesses were installed for both seats.

The hole that the flap actuator pushrod exits on the right side was grojnd a bit more to allow the flap to retract completely. Cover panel installed.

I was told that wire ties can actually cut through the powder coat on the engine mount from vibration so I began removing ties and using a short section of rubber hose to protect the mount where I need to use ties.

My most clever activity of the day related to retrieving two nuts that I had lost under the cabin floor while bolting the falp actuator arms to the pushrods. Because the plane is on its tail and slopes back these nuts disappeared from view and I was unable to fish them out with a wire. I wanted them out before I closed that area up so I raised the tailwheel onto the table and spacers to get the aircraft in "level flight" attitude. I then used my rivet gun with a mushroom set and a folded towel to protect the skin and gently vibrated the bottom of the fuselage with the rivet gun where I thought the nuts had lodged. Sure enough, they vibrated forward to where I could pick them out.
