Brief Description: Planning Improvements
|
|
"I always had on my list of things to make, an instrument panel glareshield. Vans decided to make one, saving me all that trouble, one is on the way to me. A bad idea on the Vans tank had bothered me. The fitting on the right in the center photo is a problem. It is just a nut on the inside of the fitting to hold it tight. Although I had tightened it down well with plenty of devils snot on it, when I screwed on a tube to check for leaks, I accidentally disturbed the fitting when screwing on the tube, and the only leak I had in the tank - was right there. I reinstalled it with a sloppy fix of a homemade piece made like a box end wrench anchored by the other fitting, but it is impossible to get the cutout precise enough to prevent some turning. Having experienced that once, the last thing I wanted was to have that leaking up in the space you can hardly even see when installed! I had talked Tom Boyett into improving that, and what he chose is in photo 3. By riveting on these pieces, there is no possibility of a leak there."
