Brief Description:  Planning Improvements

"I always had on my list of things to make, an instrument panel glareshield. Vans decided to make one, saving me all that trouble, one is on the way to me.
A bad idea on the Vans tank had bothered me. The fitting on the right in the center photo is a problem. It is just a nut on the inside of the fitting to hold it tight. Although I had tightened it down well with plenty of devils snot on it, when I screwed on a tube to check for leaks, I accidentally disturbed the fitting when screwing on the tube, and the only leak I had in the tank - was right there. I reinstalled it with a sloppy fix of a homemade piece made like a box end wrench anchored by the other fitting, but it is impossible to get the cutout precise enough to prevent some turning. Having experienced that once, the last thing I wanted was to have that leaking up in the space you can hardly even see when installed! I had talked Tom Boyett into improving that, and what he chose is in photo 3. By riveting on these pieces, there is no possibility of a leak there."
