I took some time today to study the builders manual and decided to begin assembly of the bulkheads. The parts quality is excellent and each individual part is labeled with the part number and name. The vast majority of the parts are ready to cleco together and updrill. You can see the bulkhead # 1 in my hand and # 2 on the table. A portion of the other fuselage parts are on the table to my right. I am waiting to receive the plans drawings before updrilling so I can be certain I have done things correctly. I don't want to be drilling out any rivets.
You may have noticed the hangar door behind me. I had made the decision to build the fuselage at my EAA Chapter 988 in Franklin, PA as my completed Corvair engine is there and I won't have to trailer the completed fuselage from my home which is 60 miles from this airport.
The chapter rmembers are active in building and restoring various aircraft. The two pictures below are recent examples of what some in the chapter are doing. The H-5 is owned and built by my good friend Jim Aaron. He is using a BMW engine for power. The bi-plane is a one off design by our chapter president Andy Maitland. He is using the Sonex Aerovee engine. It is still waiting on the inspector to show up before the first flight. Both Andy and Jim have each built 3 or 4 different planes in the past few years. Their workmanship is outstanding.
