When I measured and marked the subpanels for the instrument panel I obviously flubbed up on getting the 'level/water line' accurate for the co-pilot subpanel, In my exuberance to get the panel installed I didn't notice it initially, but over the months, it has grown to become a MAJOR irritant! Fixing it has been on my to-do list for some time and today it's priority rose to the top! The practical reason apart from the aesthetics is that the slip skid indicatior is off by more than 1/2 ball. So I leveled the plane using a level on the center spar. I double checked the Primary/pilot display and it's good. I removed the co-pilot EFIS, and then rigged up a level which would fit across the opening and marked 'level-lines' at three different places on the old subpanel. I used the old panel as a template for cutting the new panel from some .090' 2024 that I have. I cut it (outline) out using an electric grinder/cut-off wheel. Filed and trimed it to match the old one and then test fit it into the panel. Using all 3 of the level lines I marked the outline for the EFIS mounting box, I also raised it so that it would be at the same level as the pilot EFIS, cut it out, filed and trimed it to fit. Then drilled and countersunk#27 the holes to mount the panel, and remounted the panel and checked the level, Looks good. I drilled off the old mounting alum angle and then flush riveted them to the new panel, filed, sanded, primed , sanded tohide the rivets and then painted the new panel. I'll leave it under the halogen lights tonight to harden and then remount it tomorrow.
