Late last night, I decided that I would eliminate the side air vents for the rear seats. I've already got fresh air for thee seats in the overhead console. and These side vents look like a good source of water and air leaks. It was also going to be a pain to get everything faired level and looking good. So today I drilled the rivets out from inside the fuse and then used the old doubler to make .032" cover plates. I had already applied a heavy coat of flox to the opening so I countersunk through the flox and well into the .032. I used CS4-4's and attached the cover plates. then began the process of sucessive layers of fillin gthe void and rebuilding w/ Flox mix. I also got a single ply of fine weave fiberglass tape applied around all of the windows. I used the lay-up between to sheets of plastic sheet and then cut 1" wide strips (on the bias) and applied those to the pre-wetted window perimeters. It worked MUCH better than my previous attempt. I really HATE this part of the build. the garage is a mess, as is the plane, and there's more ahead than behind at this point. Oh well! complaining won't get it done, better stop whining and get on with it!
Rear seat air vent removed
1" wide fiberglass tapes applied over seams of all windows
Hard to see in picture but tapes are on both door windows as well
