More cowling work. Riveted the oil door & hidden hinge to the upper cowl. the filled the depressions left from the riveting, Sanded all of the rivet lines on the upper cowl and applied a very thin fiberglass 2" tape lay-up over the rivet heads. I'm hoping this will keep the rivets from 'working' after a couple of years and cracking the paint, with both the Pro Seal and the fiberglass tape I should be good. installed the intake rings in the lower cowl and filled some gaps around them, Let them cure and sanded them flush. Remounted both the lower and upper cowl, i tapered the pins along the portion that goes through curves w/ scotchbrite wheel and seems to facilitate insertion and removal. Verfied that the cutout for the ower cowl was far enough forward to allow for cowl removal with 3 blade prop. removed an extra 3/4" forward fo the nose strut. Fabricated a cover for the gear slot from .032 Iordered from ACS. I layed out and drilled #30 holes for screws and then match drilled to the lower cowl. I'll enlarge to #8 and install nutplates on the lower cowl (countersunk?). I'll dimple the slot cover for countersunk screws. I split the piece at the gear strut, and will cut-out 'notches' on the fowd and aft covers to allow for the nose gear leg fairing. I als ostarted to fabricate the 'hanger' that attaches to the aft of the cowl and screws into the bttom of the firewall. in this case I'll mount it to the aft slot cover.
