Brief Description:  Sec 47 step 8e

Finally beginning to get over the cold/flu. Trimmed the aft end of the lower cowl (where exhaust exits) flush with the vertical sides. countersunk the screws for the bottom attachment. Widened and evened out the slot of the gear leg and extended the slot forward to facilitate getting the prop on and off with the 3 bld prop. I'll likely have to go another 306 inches further forward. I'll fashion an .032 alum plate that will cover most of it. with the plate removed I will be able to make oil changes without removing the lower cowl!!!!. Remounted the lower cowl (easy without the prop) and final sanded all of the horiz and vertical gaps, and filed/sanded some of the 'proud' rivet heads flush. All of the rivet seams will get a layer of thin fiberglass tape to avoid the rivet heads fom working" and showing through the paint. The rest of the day was spent cutting out the oil cover. I got a 'hidden hinge' but had some difficulty in mounting it. I finally figured out that in order for the hinge to"lift" the oil door the way it is desigend to that I wol dhave to reposition the hinge. Advice to anybody doing this is to do a test with a coupld pieces of scrap alum to see where the hinge placement should be in order to avoin binding when opening the door. It's not intuitive and took some experimenting on my part. I've ordered the Camlocs for the door. tomorrow i'll do the lay-up for the 'retainer ring" so the door will have a door jam to sit in and a place to rivet the CamLocs. I wanted to do a hidden latch, but there is no way with the sealed plenum and the sealed air intakes.
