Its time I started on the baffeling and the plenum, I've been dreading this based on comments I've received from other builders, particularly about how the plenum didn't fit. Sam James uses a slightly different baffeling design than Van's. I bought the Van's baffle kit. One of the differences is the rear (#6 & #5) baffles. Using Van's requires some modifications to the rear of the James plenum. I decided it was easier to deal with these than to make the Sam James baffles and match them to Van's. We'll see if I was right. Another issue I have, is a missalignment of the plenum intake tubes with the Cowl intake rings. The Left plenum tube is 'shifted' about 3/16" - 5/16" too far outboard, the Right plenum tube is shifted about 1/8" too far inboard. Initially I thought that it was poor work on building the plenum, The plenum is a hand crafted piece and isnot made from a precision mold. However, after studying it and doing the initial sanding to get it fit, I'm of the opinion that while the left intake tube is shifted a little too far, some of the problem is with the way I mounted my cowl. I'm now convinced that my cowl is slightly shifted to the right, if it were bang on the money it would render the plenum differences moot. Now the decision is whether to cut off the Left plenum intake and reglass it moving it over a smidge, or whether to leave as is and accomodate through the neopreme ruber sleves that couple the cowl and plenum rings together.
