Brief Description:  Sec FF3-2 steps 1-3

Spent the bulk of the day trying to figure out how to mount the control cables. The AFP FM300 is a forward facing ram air fuel controller and the Van's standard cables are for a downdraft induction and aren't long enough. I mounted the instrument panel, and then clamped a length of lawn edger plastic cutting 'rope' to the panell, and threaded it through the grommets, and then routed it as I intended to, I marked the end points and then took it out and measured. It turns out that I need 60" cables for boths sides, which are longer than the Van's set. So I ordered them from ACS today. Regarding mounting the cables. The Van's cables have the bulkhead fittings on them, and so I was trying to figure out how to fashion brackets that I could use the fittings to mount close to the fuel controller. I made a coupleof false starts at fabbing some. However, when reordering new controls I ordered the ones that do not have the bulkhead fittings. Low and behold, I discovered, that Allen @ BPE has tapped 2 holes on the bottom of the cold air casting sides on each side and installed helicoils in them, they are perfect for attaching an Adel Clamp, A couple of Adel Clamps will hold the cable in a near perfect porsition. I will need to fashion a stand-off for the mixture, but per discussion w/ Don Rivera @ AFP that's not a problem. Some times the simple things elude me!
