I just found out yesterday, that it's probably going to take me at least 10 weeks to get my medical back. (If all goes well). So that takes a little wind out of my sails. So I've got some time to spend on some of the cosmetic things, before rushing to get the wings on and the engine cranked up. The leather that I installed on the glareshield shrunk and peeled back during the summer when the plane was at the painters (left buttoned up in AZ summer direct sun !). It was extremely difficult in getting the leather to stretch around the compound curves in the 1st place. So I decided to peel the leather off, and then paint the glareshield the same color as the leather. So today, I peeled off the old leather, and then washed everythign in acetone to remove the glue residue. then gave the shield a good sanding w/ 60 grit. I want the glareshield to look good, so I need to do a better job prepping it for paint. I used my old friend metal glaze and skim coated the entire glareshield, and then sanded most of it off. This served to take out most of the pits/voids and provide a uniform surface. Tomorrow I'll apply several coats of UV SmoothPrime, and then sand most of it off, to fill the scratches left from the sandpaper. Then I'll spray several coats of the matching interior paint.
