After being tied up with the holidays and away from the project it was good to get back out today. The old exhaust hangers were adel clamps clamped to the engine mount. since I installed the faux firewall, there wasn't enough room for the rubber cushion on the adel clamp between the firewall and the motor mount, I got worried about the metal to metal contact and worried that there could/would be some wear on the engine mount. So I fabricated different exhaust hangers that attached to the firewall. While Patrick was here, I got him to help me mount the exhaust hangar brackets to the firewall. I had an extra piece of the high temp blue strap that John Forsling sent, but I found out it was a bit too short to allow for it to be mounted directly to the brackets. Sooooo, I fabricated some metal bracket/clips similar to the ones that John sent that attach to the exhaust. I didn't have any .032 stainless so I made them out of alum, since these are away from the extreme heat of the exhaust I think they will be OK. I had to pick up some longer rivets from Ace as the LP 4-3's were a bit too short. As things go one task turns into 2 or three. the co-pilot side went fine, but the pilot side hanger was interferring with the breather tube., I tried bending the breather tube, but in the end I only messed it up. I ended up removing the breather tube, and cutting it just above the pilot hangar bracket. I picked up some flexible tubing w 1" ID from ACE this evening and I think I should be able to clamp the flex tube to the alum breather and then route 6-8 " around the hanger and down to where the old tube exited.
