More finish work on the doors. Friday I primed both doors and sanded then flush. I also primed and sanded the perimeter of the pilot door. Today, I began with the upholstery panel for the pilot side, it needed reinforcement along both of the vertical portions, And I also needed to build a raised cover for the door latch mechanism, which projects slightly above the interior door surface. I covered the window and the posts portions of the door w/ Saran wrap, and then cut several 3" wide strips of 6 oz cloth and layed them up in stagged layups to stiffen the 'post' portion of the panels, where they were previously buckling when bent. I cut 2 5" sq pieced of foam, and bondoed them together, and then sanded them to a shape which blended into the esisting contour on the door panel. I layed the sanded foam blocks on the bench and taped them to the bench w/ duct tape and then did a 6 ply lay-up over them, cured them w/ halogen lights, removed the fiberglas piece from the 'mold' trimmed it to fit the door latch opening, and then clecoed it in place. Mixed some flox and attached it w/ the clecos. When cured I fille dit w/ some body filler and sanded it smooth. Reattached the dor handle w/ some larger screws and standoffs. I completely hided the hole and looks VERY good. I'll cover the panel w/ a very thin layer of foam rubber, and then glue the leather to that. It should look nice when complete. I then attached the door trim after allowing the primer to cure over the weekend.
