On Monday, I installed a door seal on the pilot/left door, and was thrilled with the result EXCEPT I couldn't close the door. despite using several small sections of material to itteratively remove material while fitting, When the entire seal installed as one piece, I was unable to close the door!!!!! I spent Sat meticulously cleaning up the garage, but it was clear I needed to get out the grinding/sanding tool and go back to work on the door frames. I'll spare you the details, but I spent most all of the day on Tues. grinding/sanding/fitting etc. and by the end of the day the door still would NOT close, the problem was the aft pin would not latch. I removed almost all of the curved portion of the door frame, and there was little left to create more room, laying in bed that night I remembered how on Van's door latch, he has an angle ground onto the ends, to help pull the door in tight, Wed am, I cautiously began grinding a small wedge/point on the aft door latch pin, it worked ! With the Rivethead receivers, the wedge catches the receiver and 'pulls' the aft of the door in nice and tight. I oiled the pins, the receiveres and it make s the mechanism a little easier to engage, however it's still VERY tight, which with the recent chat on doors is just fine w/me. I still have the full untapered portion of the pin projecting all of the way through the reveiver, door jam, and metal upright. Finished up by hand sanding the door frame w/ 60 then 100 grit. Filled some voids and nicks w/ filler and sanded flush. need to reprime w/ smoothprime and cleanup AGAIN!!
