Brief Description:  Oil Door, AC Bump-Out, Center Console

Removed the oil door from the top cowl to correct the hidden hinge holding the rear of the oil door about 1/8" high when closed. Used a router bit in the drill press on its highest speed to route out about 1/8" of the fiberglass/epoxy/foam under the hinge attachment point. Re-assembled it and found that it was still a bit high, but this time due to the hinge attachment flange being a bit bent and so not setting flat. Removed the door again and straightened the hinge flange by hand. Re-assembled and found it improved but still off a little, so once again removed and tweeked the hinge flange a little more. This time when reassembled the door sits flat in the cowl opening.

Mixed up some epoxy and painted the area where I routed for the hinge flange to seal it.

Sanded the air conditioner compressor bump out with random orbit sander to smooth the edges, and then by hand to smooth the rest of it and improve the shape a bit. Mixed up epoxy with white tint and thined it with a little bit of acetone, and than painted the entire bump out with this mixture to help seal any pin holes. Wiped the bottom edge several times with paper towels to remove drips as the epoxy cured.

Sanded the center console completely using 150 grit with the random orbit sander on the flat portions and then hand sanded the rest with 120 grit sand paper. Finished up by sanding the entire console by hand with red Scotch Brite pad. Wiped down the console using acetone twice.

Set the console onto a support roller stand that fit inside through the open bottom and allowed access to all the areas to be painted. Sprayed the console with one light coat of Rustoleum semi-gloss clear from a rattle can.
