Brief Description:  Bottom Cowl & Baffles

Completed the Bottom Cowl

Dimpled the bottom cowl slot cover (fabricated yesterday) and the K1000-08 nut plates using the hand squeezer. (Returned the loaned DRDT a couple of months ago.) Riveted the nut plates using AN426AD3-3.5 rivets by back riveting.

Enlarged the #40 holes match drilled into the cowl to #19 for the cowl slot cover screws.

Re-installed the bottom cowl using the new stainless steel hinge pins.

Checked the left air inlet ramp for fit to the bottom cowl and marked areas for additional trimming. Removed the bottom cowl so the inlet ramp baffle could be removed and trimmed.

Re-installed the engine baffles in the back and sides. Attempted to re-install the left air inlet ramp but couldn't get the lower rear mounting screw CB-1002B installed. Galled the initial thread in the engine hole trying to get the screw started. Had to remove the left air ramp and the air conditioner compressor in order to access the screw hole with a 1/4-20 tap to fix the thread.

Determined that the left baffle ramp wasn't fitting in place due to the compressor support arm and the compressor mounting bolt back nut. Marked the locations and trimmed the ramp further for these obstructions.

Finally was able to install the left side inlet ramp baffle. Then re-installed the compressor under the ramp. However, something is slightly out of alignment with the compressor so that it isn't aligned properly with the flywheel and the idler pully doesn't fit right. Since it was now after 6:20 pm, made a note of the problem, put my tools away and stopped for the day,
