Brief Description:  Bottom Cowl Side Hinges Riveted. Oil Door Cut

Clecoed both of the bottom side hinges onto the bottom cowl with the cowl in-place on the plane. Installed the AN3 rivets per the plans, squeezing them in every other rivet hole, then removing the clecoes on the alternate holes and squeezing rivets into the remaining holes. Re-installed the top half of the side hinges onto the lower cowl with the hinge pins. Need to confirm the arrangement of the Aerosport Products Cowl Pin Covers before installing the top half of the hinges to the top cowl.

Cut the opening in the top cowl for the oil door. Cut it slightly different than called out by the plans to work with the after market oil door hidden hinge purchased from Aircraft Spruce.

Cut the Van's provided fiberglass oil door blank to fit in the oil door joggle.

Measured the hidden hinge width, and layed out rivet holes to mount it to the cowl so that it is centered in the door opening. Clamped it to the cowl with cleco spring clamps and drilled 5 rivet holes. With the hinge clecoed to the cowl, taped the oil door into place with masking tape, and with tape holding the hinge in place against the oil door drilled 5 rivet holes into the hinge and door. Marked the door opening onto the inside of the door.

Cut the provided foam to fit within the oil door opening per the plans. Glued the foam in place onto the oil door using epoxy with slow hardener. Left with quart hardener cans sitting on top of the foam to hold it flush to the oil door due to the curve in the door.
