Brief Description:  Prepared for Windscreen Base Faring Fabrication

Removed the clamps holding the windscreen in the lower left rear corner now that the epoxy adhesive has fully cured. Cleaned up a small amount of glue squeeze out using a razor knife. Confirmed that the windscreen is now properly positioned and firmly attached.

Reinstalled the 2 clips removed from the windscreen base to make the repair to the windscreen position. Then drilled and installed 2 more clips on either side of bottom center to better hold the windscreen bottom securely in place.

Measured up 2 inches from the windscreen bottom and made several marks along the bottom. Applied 2 layers of orange electrical tape (Scotch 35) along the marks to create a masking and position indicator for the fiberglass layup. Applied a single layer of the 20 mil pipe tape to the top edge of the electrical tape to hold the tape firmly and help mask the windscreen. Then masked the rest of the windscreen using paper and masking tape.

Measured down 4 inches from the bottom edge of the plexiglass windscreen and made several marks along the length of the windscreen. Applied a layer of 20 mil pvc pipe tape to the forward fuselage top skin along these marks to define the area of the top skin to be sanded.

Sanded the lower 2 inches of the windscreen up to the electrical tape using 80 grit sandpaper. Took care to be sure the entire surface of the plexiglass below the tape was sanded with no shiny/transparent areas remaining. Sanded about 3 inches of the top skin with 80 grit sandpaper. Then sanded to the pipe tape mask using a red scotchbrite pad.

Phosphoric acid etched the top skin between the plexiglass and the pipe tape mask. Applied the phosphoric acid (obtained at Home Depot) using a chip brush, then let it sit for 20 minutes. Washed the acid off with a new brush and lots of fresh water, then dried it with paper towels. Then used acetone to do a final cleaning at the edge of the plexiglass where it will join to the top skin, which also made sure all the water had been removed.
