Brief Description:  Rudder Trim, Heater Cables

Installed the Aerosport rudder trim unit.

After checking brake lines for interference, and checking that the cables will not be more than 30 degrees from center between the trim unit and the rudder trim arms, decided to mount the trim unit to the bottom of the panel on the right side of the pilots seat, just under the flaps switch. Marked, drilled, and mounted the unit.

Installed the trim arms to the rudder pedal torque tubes using the supplied double stick tape and hose clamps. Installed the springs to the trim arms, and measured the distance from the springs to the trim unit. Created the required loops in the fine cables from the trim unit to the springs at the measured distance less 1.75" per the installation video, which is to keep the springs stretched by that amount.Crimped the farrels to hold the loop using the crimping tool used for the ground block pins. Put the trim unit away to prevent damage while completing the panel work.

Since the heater push/pull control cables installed many months ago per the Van's instructions are way too long for the mounting location of the panel sides, decided to loosen them from the heat diverter valves and the edel clamps in order to shorten them. Tried several different methods to cut the outer cable housing before finding the easiest and best way is using a metal cut off disk in the Dremel tool. Marked the cables to cut them, but then realized that the cables need to be completely removed from the plane in order to thread them through the panel mounting holes and then to the valves. Since once this is done the cables will be permanently mounted to the side panels, and in the way as I finish up the panel wiring, decided to defer this work.

Determined locations and drilled the holes in the side panels for the 4 cables.
