Brief Description:  Located A/C Scoop On Fuselage Bottom

Relocated the fuselage on the support dolly in order to access the area where the A/C condenser scoop is to be installed. With the fuselage lifted off the dolly using the overhead winch, I was able to snap a chalk line along the length of the fuselage bottom to mark the center of the belly.

Measured the 3-3/8" distance from the aft edge of the F-1076 skin at each side of the fuselage, and then snapped a chalk line across the fuselage to mark the rear location for the scoop.

Measured and located the center of the scoop on the front and rear scoop flanges and marked with a silver Sharpie. Drilled #40 holes at the front and back center, then match drilled into the fuselage and clecoed in place using the 2 holes. Verified that the scoop was centered on the fuselage bottom. Marked the locations of the fuselage ribs and the rear spar using the rivet lines to locate them onto the scoop. Then removed the scoop and marked the rib flange locations to avoid drilling holes into these.

Marked locations for mounting screws on the scoop flange approx. 3" centers and drilled #40 pilot holes.
Re-installed the scoop using the 2 clecoes, and match drilled the #40 holes into the fuselage bottom, starting at the front of the scoop and moving aft, installing a cleco in each hole as it is drilled. Removed the single cleco at the aft center when about 2/3 of the holes were drilled on both sides, and continued to match drill until all holes had been drilled and clecoed. Note that the aft center hole will not be used for permanent mounting as the rudder torque tube is too close to the bottom of the tunnel and so a rivnut in that location could interfere with the rudder operation.
