Brief Description:  Riviting Hard To Reach Locations

With Kristi home on Spring Break, I was able to gain her help to drive a number of rivits that require 2 people.

Stated by riviting the backing plates for the 2 belly penetrations for the air conditioner condenser with AN426AD3-3.5 rivets. Kristi drove from below while I bucked from above.

Installed the two GPS antenna backing plates on the top of the tail cone with AN426AD4-4 rivets.

Installed the oil cooler box onto the fire wall per the FWF drawings. These rivets were difficult to drive due to the narrow and thick flange to be riveted, which also is difficult to access on the top due to the hose connection ring. Tried riveting from the cooler box side and wasn't able to get the factory head set properly flush. Tried using the back rivet tool on the inside of the fuselage with the tungsten bucking bar on the cooler box side, however Kristi didn't have enough strength to hold the bucking solidly against the rivet head. We switched sides and Kristi used the standard mushroom head tool on the rivet gun while I held the bucking bar solidly against the factory head. This worked well, and after drilling out 4 of the early rivets we set all of them properly.

Riveted the W-1016 Tip Ribs into the trailing edge of the wing tips. With the ribs installed per the plans, it was difficult to get to the last couple of rivets at the trailing edge as there wasn't enough room for the bucking bar between the closely spaced flanges Riveted the last 2 holes using Cherry #40 rivets.
