Brief Description:  Elevator Control System Install

Installed the elevator bell crank assembly and then the elevator push rods between the idler arm and bell crank and idler arm and control stick in order to complete the connection between the control stick and the elevator.

The idler arm assembly was a bit too wide, causing the edges to rub on the idler arm brackets. Ground about 1/16" off each of the 4 edges of the assembled F-1063A Elevator Idler Arms, which allowed for a non-interference fit. Then installed the idler arm assembly per the plans.

Had to remove the F-1035 Battery/ Bellcrank Mount, which was made more difficult by the prior installation of the ADAHR tray and the mounting brackets for the pitch and yaw servos. However, the only way to be able to slide the push rods into place was by removing this unit. Didn't have to disconnect the aft elevator push rod connection to the bell crank however.

I connected the F-1090 middle push rod bearing end to the bottom of the bell crank before placing the battery/bellcrank mount back into position, which made for a much easier connection make-up than it would have been had I followed the drawing steps which called for the reverse order.

Making up the F-1089 bearing connection to the idler arm assembly was very difficult, as it was hard to get to and requires a washer be installed on both sides of the bearing within the two sides of the idler arm. To accomplish this, I tied the 2 washers to the bearing using a fine nylon thread, and pulled the combination up into position with a hemostat holding onto the thread. I then used a small allen wrench to capture the washers and bearing through the idler arm bolt hole and get it better aligned. Then I inserted the specified AN3-10A bolt into the opposite side of the idler arm bolt hole, pushing the allen wrench out with the bolt as it was inserted.

Once the F-1089 connection was made, the F-1090 connection was easily made since it didn't require any washers other than one next to the nut.

Making the last connection to the control column, the initia
