Brief Description:  Initial Connection of Tail Cone to Fuselage

Re-arranged shop to bring the fuselage and tail cone into the center of the shop, aligned for connection. Determined that longerons on the fuselage and tail cone were at 0 deg. from horizontal, so well aligned front to back. However, the tail cone was about 6 inches higher on the saw horsed than the fuselage on its dolly.

Lowered the height of the saw horses by removed the adjustable legs, as the front saw horse was already at it's lowest setting. Then brought it back up about 4.5 inches with wood blocks under the remaining fixed portion of the legs. Adjusted the saw horse down at the tail to once again bring the tailcone level.

Getting the tail cone front to slip into the fuselage back so that the fuselage was outside the tail cone skins, and the tail cone skin was between the fuselage skin and the baggage area ribs was difficult. We would get one side properly aligned, and find the other side was out of position. Raising the tail of the tail cone by 1 inch helped a bit with the alignment. It was also difficult to pull the two sections together. In future, I would try to arrange some type of strap system on each side to allow pulling the two sections together slowly while working to align them.

Finally got the left side in position, and quickly clecoed the fuselage skin to the tail cone skin on this side. Then both of us were able to work on getting the right side properly positioned and pulled into place, allowing the right side skins to be clecoed together.
