Brief Description:  Removable Snorkle - Part 3

Removed peel ply from the fiberglass lay-up. Drilled holes for mounting screws on 4 inch centers around the snorkle flange, approximately centered between the cut line and the snorkle edge, first with #40 drill to confirm placement, and then opened up to #19 for 8R8 screws. Cut the areas left around the snorkle holding it in place for fiberglassing, as well as the rear area not previously drilled adjacent to the attachement hinges, using the Dremel with diamond cutting disk. Broke the snorkle free from the cowl by hitting from the inside along the cut with the heel of my hand.

Cleaned up the snorkle cut with sandpaper. Cleaned up the fiberglass flange on the cowl with cutting disk and sand paper.

Drilled #40 holes for attachment of the nut plates from the inside. Counter sunk these rivet holes on the outside of the fiberglass flange using a #40 piloted countersink placed in the deburring handle. Installed K1000-08 (MS21047L08) nutplates. Most required AN426AD3-4.5 rivets, with a couple requiring AD3-5 rivets where the fiberglass flange was thicker.

Counter sunk the screw holes in the snorkle with #19 piloted counter sink in a straight shaft using a slow speed cordless drill. Assembled the snorkle to the cowl with AN509-8R8 (MS24694-S5) screws to confirm fit.
