Brief Description:  Mag Timing. Brake Bleeding

Reviewed ELT installation instructions. Will need to bring hand held radio from home to test ELT prior to final installation.

Removed top spark plugs to set magneto timing. Had to enlarge the baffle holes for access to the rear spark plugs (#5 & #6) to 1" in order to get the plug socket onto the plugs to remove/install them.

Confirmed engine top dead center by rotating it with thumb over the #1 cyl. spark plug hole, and rocking it to find the point where it would draw suction on either direction. Confirmed the flywheel timing mark for 0 deg. was in the right point on the starter. Had to remove the left magneto, turn the gear, and replace the mag in order to set it at 25 deg BTC. Both mags are now set at 25 deg. BTC using the timing synchronizer that I built from a kit.

Re-installed the top plugs and torqued to 35 ft-lbs.

Filled both brake systems with RoyCo 782 synthetic hydraulic oil (Mil-Spec: MIL-PRF-83282) by bleeding them from the calipers up to the reservoir. Used a 1/2 gal garden sprayer with a 1/4" ID hose to connect to the bleeder valve and pressure the fluid into the system. Removed the filter cap from the brake reservoir and replaced it with a plastic hose barb fitting, and ran a hose to a soda cup to catch overflow. Used safety wire to hold the tubing onto the bleeder valve so it didn't leak. Both sets of brake peddles appear firm, but will check for air after they have set for a few days.
