Brief Description:  ELT Wiring, Left Tray Modification

Spliced the telephone connectors for the ELT onto the 6 conductor shielded cable previously installed from the panel to the tail cone. (Cable installed before closing the fuselage was based on the ELT I installed in my Grumman a couple years ago. However, the ELT recommended and purchased from Aerotronics uses a telephone extension cable between the ELT and the ELT mini-panel. Don't have room in the conduit to run this extension cable, so instead I spliced the two ends onto the cable installed by soldering each of the 4 wires to the wires in the shielded cable and installing heat shrink over each splice.)

Spliced the 3 conductor shielded cable running to the ELT in the tail cone to the 2 conductor shielded from the GTN 650 for position signal and the single conductor ELT power wire. located at the left side of the panel.

Soldered the 4 pin DIN connector for the ELT to the 3 conductor shielded cable run to the tail cone. This was a very difficult connection as the DIN connecor supplied with the ELT had solder pins for 30 AWG or smaller wire. Therefore had to solder the 24 AWG wires to the sides of the connector pins, and then cover them with heat shrink insulation.

I would NOT recommend the ACK Model E04 transponder!

Started to install the left avionics tray and determined that the left side of the tray is too close to the current shunts installed on the sub-panel. Trimmed the left side panel of the tray by 1.25" to allow adequate clearance around the shunt terminals. However this will require relocation of the GAD 29 originally mounted to that side panel.
