Brief Description:  PFD-1 Wiring Harness Fabrication Begins

Began wiring for the pilot's PFD (PFD-1).

Measured and cut each wire for PFD-1 and placed them onto the wiring board, labeling each end of each wire per the wiring diagrams. (Ran out of 1/4" shrink tube label, so switched to 3/8". Tested and determined that the 3/8" shink tube labels will work with the 2 conductor and 3 conductor shielded wire as it shrinks enough to become tight to the wire when heated.

Spent quite a bit of time looking for the DB-9 connector for the P4101 connector to PFD-1, but determined that I did not receive one. Checked the G3X Install manual which doesn't show a 9 pin connector kit as an accessory for the GDU 460. Found a note in the manual with the diagram for the back-up RS-232 connection of the GDU 460 to the GSU 25 which recommends the back-up connection be made and provides a part number for the 9 pin connector kit.

Wrote an email to Jason Smith of Aerotronics asking about the 9 pin connector and if I had missed something like a surplus connector in another LRU connection kit or perhaps an ability to make this connection to RS-232 #1 on the P4102 connector. Jason called me within just a few minutes of receiving my email to discuss. It seems that the DB-9 connector is not supplied by Garmin as part of the GDU 460 connectors. However, if you purchase the indicated kit from Garmin their price is an outragous $50. He said instead they typically use a standard DB-9 female crimp connector purchased from an electroncs supply house with a standard back shell, and attach a crimp ring to one of the backshell connection screws that hold the connector to the LRU.

Stripped the outer insulation and shield from each of the cables in preparation for terminating the cables for PFD-1.
