Brief Description:  Air Box Fabrication

Started the day by reviewing the compressor installation. Found that I had missed one insert in one of the compresor bolts, so removed the bolt, installed the insert, and reinstalled and torqued the bolt.

Began work on the air box. Read through the multiple documents provided regarding the air box.

Started to fabricate the drain tube, but found that the specificed AN470AD6-7 rivet had not been supplied. Checked Lane Aviation parts but they don't stock rivets that large. Sent an email on this to Van's Support. Received a reply from Van's at the end of the day saying they don't supply that rivet in the kit, but that 'Any old 3/16 diameter screw/bolt/aluminum rod that will fit into the plastic tube will do".

Cut the opening for the alternate air door. Initially cut the circle with the sabre saw, then enlarged it to fit the door flange ring using a sanding drum in the Dremmel tool. Drilled the mounting holes and counter sunk them per the plans, Applied pro-seal the the flange ring and clecoed it into place on the fiberglass air box. Used the pulled rivets specified for mounting the ring to the air box. Then back riveted the nut plate onto the inside of the air box since the squeezer wouldn't fit thru the door ring hole.

Cleaned up all the accumulated receipts from the top of the credenza in the shop, and placed them all into a folder which I took home for filing.
