Brief Description:  Began Preping Engine for Mounting

Drilled out the holes in the left wheel fairing that were fiberglassed yesterday, and installed a new nut plate. Had to use 4.5 rivets due to the additional thickness of the fiberglass strips added.

Positioned the left mounting bracket into the rear half nose fairing, and drilled the mounting holes through the nut plates using the angle drill with a #40 bit. Removed the bracket and drilled and counter sunk the holes for the mounting bracket. Reinstalled the mounting bracket. Left all the wheel fairings off, placing them onto the storage shelf, as they would need to be removed for the eventual transportation to the airport.

Un-crated the IO-540 engine. Removed the side foam blocking the engine from being lifted up out of the cardboard box by cutting and pulling pieces out. Cut open the plastic bag sealing the engine and attached the engine hoist to the 2 lifting lugs on the engine case. Jacked up the engine using the engine hoist to remove it from the transport box, then moved in (hanging from the engine hoist) to a space in the shop near the front of the engine to work on preparation for mounting the engine. Lowered the engine onto the foam block that was removed from the top of the shipping box in order to cushion it and support it off the shop floor. (Not safe to leave it hanging from the engine hoist for any extended time.

Installed the various fittings into the back of the engine per the construction drawings.
