Brief Description:  Wheel Fairings

Drilled out the holes that filled with epoxy from placing fiberglass for reinforcing yesterday. Had trouble finding a couple of the holes, so learned to mark them with Sharpie on the inside before sanding down the epoxy even with the outside surface.

Re-mounted and checked alignment, finding it well aligned on both sides. Marked the bottom opening for a 3/4" gap between the tire and fairing, removed and re-assembled with clecoes and connected the marks to form a trim line using a piece of #14 wire as a marking guide. Trimmed the wheel opening on each using a Dremel tool with a cutting disk and then a sanding drum, then finished with hand sanding. The Dremel tool stopped working part way through this and had to be replaced.

Prepared for placing epoxy-flox at the 4 mounting screws on each side by taping the mounting flanges with packing tape and placing model clay on the outsides to prevent the epoxy-floss from wraping around the flange. Mixed up the epoxy-flox to a peanut butter thickness, applied thickly to the inside of each fairing half and mounting in place. Re-checked alignment.

Sanded the nose gear fairing halves to fit together properly. Drilled the joining flange per the plans. In order to get the bottom edges of the joint to lay properly flat, heated the edges with a heat gun and clamped in place with a spring clamp until cooled.
