Brief Description:  Finalized Left Door Latch Installation

By carefully observing the door motion as the latch pins engaged the pin blocks, the door was being lifted up about 1/16 inch by the latch pins. This indicated that the latch pin block holes were sitting too high in relation to the door pins.

Opened up the bottom of the door pin block holes and the fuselage latch pin holes using a small grinding stone in the Dremel tool. By incrementally enlarging just the bottom of the holes, I was able to achieve a snug but acceptable fit.

Installed the door support strut attach brackets to the door using the length tool created last week. then installed the door support strut between the door and cabin top and confirmed it properly supported the door.

Determined the best location for the 3rd latch cam engagement block in the bottom door frame. As with the right door, I trimmed the overhang off of the base of the block using the band saw, and beveled the bottom outside corner of the block to fit against the cabin door frame without interfering with the epoxy fillet at the intersection of the fiberglass door frame and the fuselage door opening. Held the block in place with a c-clamp and match drilled the 2 mounting holes. Fastened the block in place using the hardware provided.

Adjusted the latch cam on the actuator rod so that the center of the door is pulled into the frame without distorting the door or leaving it loose. Tightened the set screw to hold the cam in place. Will drill and install the roll pin to permanently hold the cam in place in the future, after confirming that the current location is correct.

A Major Milestone Has Been Reached - THE DOORS ARE FINISHED! (although they will require removal one last time to do some paint touch-up.
