Brief Description:  Door Latch

Having received the Plane Around latch tips, the Aerosport low profile handle, and the locks from ACS, I proceeded with the installation of the low profile handle as a new install (rather than a retrofit).

Installed the low profile handle plate into the door latch pocket. Drilled the holes and enlarged with a small drum sander on the Dremel. Drilled all the holes including for the locks. Had to enlarge the lock slot in the handle plate to get the lock to fit into it. Needed to trim the hole a bit more to get the lock to line up perfectly with the outer trim plate. Counter sunk all the #12 mounting holes.

Installed the original Van's supplied rod guides into both doors. These will allow for drilling the push rod holes per the Van's instructions. They will then be replaced by the improved guides provided with the Plane Around 180 kit.

Mixed up a small batch of epoxy with West fibers and inserted the mix into the open areas between the inner and outer skins at the latch mechanism holes, using small binder clips to clamp the skins around the large holes cut for the handle mechanism.

(Note: Last start today as Kristi headed back to College Station. So we took her to breakfast, and I then spent time with her looking at health insurance and making arrangements for a storage unit in College Station to store her apartment furniture until she has secured a job and is ready to move to the job's location.)
