Brief Description:  Trimming Doors

Continued to trim the right cabin door. Had to call Van's help line to understand how the door is supposed to fit in the opening since the plans are not clear.

Found that trimming per the plans resulted in doors that are still too large. Had to trim several times to get the door to the right size. Found that the top of the door was resting on the lip of the door opening gutter, which was keeping it from fitting properly. Once I sanded down the gutter lip, the door fit properly within the frame.

Used a Dremmel tool with a diamond cutting disk (from harbor freight) to cut the doors. Then used a combination of a Perma Grit Sanding Block and a 12" 2x4 with 60 grit sand paper (held on using carpet tape) to do the final fitting. After the initial trim, clecoed the door in place and marked around all the edges onto the fuselage with a Sharpie. Than removed the door, measured the overlap and transfered that measurement to the door as a line, and trimmed the door to that line.

One of the keys to getting the door to fit was sanding an angle on the back side of the door flange to allow the door to drop in place.

Trimmed the left side door to the scribed line which made it closer to the correct size. Then measured and trimmed again. Next step tomorrow on the left door will be removing the cleco tabs and finalizing the fit.
