Brief Description:  Aileron Linkages & Trim Servo

After doing a search on VAF for the aileron rubbing issue, I found postings from others that Van's suggested re-arranging the mounting washers for the ailerons to move the aileron slightly and increase the clearance. After some experimentation I found that by shortening the bushing to 9/16" long and installing 2 washers on the opposite side of the bearing, that the aileron is no longer rubbing. This also required moving the single washer on the outboard bearing to the opposite side so that there are now 3 washers on outside of the bearing and none on the inside. See photos 1 & 2 for the final arrangement.

With the ailerons now successfully mounted, installed the W-1018 push rod. Then installed the flaps temporarily and adjusted the push rod for proper length using the W-730 jig and the flaps to determine neutral position. Checked all jam nuts for tight and torque sealed them.

Repeated the process for the left wing.

Installed the aileron trim servo attached to the access plate on the right wing, and confirmed no interferences. Then stroked the servo using temporary power source and determined the center position by measuring the angle at each end of stroke using my iPhone. Set the servo at the center position and determined the location of the servo arm on the W-1017 push rod torque tube. Removed the W-1017 tube from the wing, and determined the location for the spring mounting brackets. Drilled and riveted the mounting brackets per the drawings, attached the springs to the brackets, and re-installed the W-1017 into the ring.

I put the servo which is mounted to the inspection plate back onto the shelf, and will install it later when ready to wire it to the auto pilot roll servo.
