Brief Description:  Fitting Cabin Top

After sanding further and still having trouble fitting the fiberglass door frame within the fuselage door opening, I again called Van's builder support and then traded several emails with photos with them. The answer was that I needed to remove more of the forward and aft "lip" until they would fit within the fuselage opening. The resulting radiused lip is almost completely gone, but it fits within the door openiing.

Then had to trim additional material off the bottoms of the door frame in order to bring the cabin top down so that the rear side flanges fit properly into the side skin. Also had to trim additional material off these side flanges as they were hitting the longerons even though I had initially trimmed them to the scored lines. Turned out the scored lines were more than the recommended 3/4" from the edge of the flange.

Finally got the cabin top to sit properly. So clecoed the front tailcone top skin into place. Had some problems aligning the skin to the F-1006 bulkhead due to some bending of the bulkhead as a result of taking the cabin cover off and on about 8 times in trying to fit it right. Will need to install a stiffener plate on the right side where the bulkhead has bent and caused a slight crack in the edge fold above the longeron.

Found that the rear flange of the cabin top was about 1/16" too long and slightly interfering with the F-1006 bulkhead, so will remove the cabin top once more tomorrow to trim this further.
