Brief Description:  Fitting Fiberglass Fairings to Horizontal Stabiliz

Began fitting fiberglass fairings to both tips of horizontal stabilizer.

Installed the elevator fairings and match drilled, then used a hand squeezer to pull the rivets for the right elevator tip. This took a lot of strength, and so decided to purchase a pneumatic puller prior to install the rest of the fairings using pulled rivets.

Took some time to figure out the best way to trim the fiberglass tips for fitting and to remove material from fairing for even gap between elevator horn and stabilizer fairing. Found the best way to do initial rough trim on the flange was using dremmel tool with cut-off wheel. To take the fiberglass down to the final position/line, set up a belt sander attaching it to the workbench and sanded to final figure. This proved accurate and relatively fast.

Once the top of the first fairing was properly fitted, transfered that curve to a stiff piece of paper and then cut the curve in the paper and taped it to the bottom side of the fairing. Tracing from this paper to the fairing allowed for quickly getting very close to the final adjustments. Then used this same method to transfer the outline to the other fairing to quickly cut that fairing to fit well.
