Date:  8-29-2012
Number of Hours:  9.50
Manual Reference:
Brief Description:  cont fiberglass work, tips riveted

continued work on the tips by bonding the metal strips to the right stab tip and right elevator tip and riveted both in place to match, got a good match on this side with only minimal filling required.

Also trimmed and finshed the faces of the stab tips and then continued filling the left hadn tip and after a num,ber of layers got it flush and the rivets filled nicely but still get a discernible step in filler after priming, also a number of pin holes need to be filled again with diluted filler. Worked on getting the same match on the bottom of the stab tip individually from the top.

Sopme more filling on the rudder and fin tips and got a good match sanded by hand but again after priming saw that they weren't matching as well as they seemed and there are still many imperfections, A study of other installations and those of already flying RV's has these almost matching perfectly so I adde more filling to make up the 4 or so mm left to match the tops but the sides are nicely flush.

When I had the left elevator tip secured in place for match-drilling I noticed that the flange of the fg tip did not reach past the holes in the letal skin edge and so would need to be added to with fiberglass and filler and metal strips to give safe edge distance for the attachment rivets so I took the tip off and layed up some glass cloth with masking tape to make up anopther 10mm or so (trimmed later). Left to dry overnight to be completed tomorrow.
