continued work on the canopy release machanism, fabricated the various components that make up the mechanism starting with the arms, I had previously worked the arms in 4130 3/8 aluminium tubing I had mistaken for the right material, in fact the drawing calls for the arms to be made up from ST4130 035x3/8 which is steel tubing and makes much more sense. I had problems with the weakness of the slotted ends of the aluminium and was concenred that the pins would pull right out - a stupid oversight not to have noted the ST and made sure of my material. With the arms properly made up and complete I fashioned the hinge pins from the AN43B-16 hardware, simply cut off the threaded shank and rounded the ends.
I also slotted the canopy release handle, this time being very careful to get my centerline accurate and slot and rill the right way up as per the drawings, although I did briefly consider an alternative configuration where the handle would sit with the arms horizontal on the panel face but stuck to the standard after fitting and deciding there was enough space for the arms to sit vertically.
Continued trimming and fabricating the hinge blocks in the dreaded UHMW material, I struggle when working this stuff, it doesnt sand or drill easily.
