Brief Description:  F-703B bracket finalized and installed, vent brack

today I continued the fabrication of the dreaded F-703B bracket by punching and then drilling in the drill press the 40something holes in the one side of the angle stock which will form the apexes of the notches to be cut in the angle. I first drilled to #40 and then #30, the holes were cleaned up and the notches drawn in place with a small template of a notch that I made to measurements.

The many nothces then had to be cut by hand, first one side down to the hole, then the other side down to the hole leaving a 7/32 wide notch, 40 something times1 I started with the Dremel tool which made nice clean cuts but was injuring me and using up too many discs, I actually found cutting with the hand saw to be far quicker although leaving ugly cuts. In both cases the bracket had to be secured, first time on the table in a jig and then in the vice facing up.

The many cuts had to be cleaned up one by one by hadmn with a flat file and the apexes with a round needle file until I had 40 something cleaned and neat notches. The entire bracket was deburred and sanded to clean up all the edges and then I started fitting it to the panel face.
First I measured the hole to the immediate left of the center line on the panel and transfered that to the bracket, I drilled that and then clecod the bracket to the panel and began match drilling each tab (created by the notches) whilst holding it in position so that the angle matched the contour of the panel. When I was finally done I sanded and knocked the bracket into shape until I got a square flange that matched perfectly the panel's edge. I also match drilled and fitted in the same way, the brackets that made up the sides of the flange on the panel and secured the panel to the deck and longerons. I drilled and clecod the nutplates to these brackets and fitted the panel in place so the longerons can be drilled.
