Brief Description:  Machining Stack Mounts

I worked from the prints and the install documents to create an NC file for the CNC Mill to drill the aluminum angle mounts for the radio stacks. The variation between racks was as little as 0.005" and as much as 0.060 in the design. The CNC should hit these dead-on.

I had a little trouble setting up 0,0,0 on the CNC. I got Y and Z correctly, but had offset the X dimension (vertical in my model). The stack was about 1 1/2" too high on the panel. I gradually trimeed the mounts to fit.

The result was wonderful. The CNC depths and spacings were perfect. The stacks fit perfectly and the protrusion through the panel is perfect.

This was slower that "guestimating" but much more accurate.

I will be staring at the panel whenever I am flying (except for scanning for traffic or trying to decide blue from brown), so Perfect Is Good.
