Brief Description:  Mock Up Panel

Today marked the change of work from fuselage wiring to Instrument Panel Wiring (Avionics). So, I started out by organizing the shop. I tossed a lot of wire odds-and-ends, cut off connectors, and various flotsum that had accumulated. Not directly productive, but it was getting too messy.

I took the sabersaw to the prototype instrument panel. Having moved the MFD from below the PFT to beside it in the new panel, I need to change my mock up so the wire is routed the right way.

The new panel is looking like swiss cheese. But I was able to get it all mounted up mechanically.

I did have one setback - I couldn't get the transponder out of its rack. It sure seemed like the retaining mechanism had sheered. I ended up taking off the face plate on the transponder and removing a flex circuit to the bezel. It turned out that the mechanism was fine. I got my hex wrench in and removed the unit from the tray and reassembled it. Good outcome compared to the alternatives.

I decided that I need a better plan for the layout. I want the AHRS to be mounted on the sub-panel so I can pull the whole thing and test it on the bench. So, it is now off to the drawing board. Well to the 3D CAD drawing board.

The mock up sure doesn't look like great workmanship. It isn't. It is quick and dirty to get the wiring laid out before I start on the real panel. And, by doing the mock up, I found that I will want more vertical support on the end of the tray.
