Brief Description:  Ordering The Engine

We were told by Vans that the finishing kit takes about 2-3 months to get. So at the current pace, we figured it is time to order it.

We had decided to go with a derated TMX390 to get more horsepower up high. That engine is not one of the ones supported by Vans. They do have a worksheet with 20 questions to answer for people who use something other than the three or four that they offer. But, I didn't know the answers to the twenty questions.

I decided to call Mattituck and ask them the questions. I got up early to make the call and get the finishing kit ordered before Charles showed up to work. The Mattituck Tech Support guy was out of the office for the day. The operator transferred me to Sales where I got all my answers. Mike (sales) indicated we might want to order soon as a price increase was coming. He also said that lead time was 4-5 months, not the 3 I expected. So we ordered our engine

We still have a month or so to figure out the details of the engine ignition, but now that is a looming task. Charles is leaning towards FADEC, but I am a little afraid of it for aerobatics. We both want something more exotic and efficient than 100 year old magneto technology.

On a roll, I continued with parts ordering. We send off an order to Dick Martin for TruTrak servos. I odrered Duck Works HID landing and taxi lights and a Whelan strobe/position light kit along with miscellaneous circuit breakers and switches.

The major lead time items remaining to order are the prop and avionics.
