I put the VS on at least 10 times today, trying to get the fit right. Vans recommends using shims on the attachment bracket. I seem to have gotten lucky and have a perfect fit fore-aft. But I did have some interference problems vertically on the front spar of the VS.
Vans recommends trimming of the VS to fit to the fuselage. They do require that an overlap of at least 2" between the VS front spar and the VS angle attach bracket (F681). It looks like we will have about 2.6".
I adjusted the VS 1/16th inch to the left, creating a slight right turning tendancy to offset P-Factor. I checked and rechecked the alignment of the rudder hinges. Everything looks great. I decided to knock off for the day and re-check tomorrow, and then drill the holes. I may be over-engineering this piece, but I want both structural integrety and proper alignment.
