Since the baffles are used to support a lot of things, it is time to finish them off before installing all the hoses and wires. Only two tasks remain: installing the oil cooler and adding the baffle seals.
I tackled the cooler today.
Van's plans have the cooler bolted directly to the aft side of the left baffle. The problem with this is that almost 60% of the air inlet to the cooler is blocked by the cylinder. The baffle is also pretty weak. I came across some cut-offs from the canapy slide that seemed about right to create a strong airbox that would let more air flow through the cooler. While the main airflow still enters in the top 40% of the box, the air can flow easily to the lower part of the filter.
