I finally decided on the oil cooler location. I am back to putting it on the baffle where Van's recommends.
I am making one small mod that Tom Porta suggested.. I am using the left over canopy rail to make an offset to allow better airflow through the filter. This should double the effective area of the cooler, making the Van's stock big enough.
I built two attachment rails. While it started out to be straightforward, the problem came when trying to rivet the nut plates. I smimply couldn't get the rivet clincher in the space. I thought about pop-rivets, but they are 1/8" - too big for the nut plates. Eventually, I modifies a rivet squeezer head to allow me to get in. I had to drill through hardened steel - sacraficing a few drill bits.
