Many have asked what is happening with the kit - why we have stopped work
It is simple - no parts.
We started work on the Empennage last December. After a week or so, We decided that WE CAN DO THIS. So we ordered the wings and fuselage - $20,000 or so.
We were quoted 13 weeks. That would put delivery at about mid March, 2006. Then in late January I enquired as to lead time so I could plan out March travel. They indicated that it might be as soon as Late February. GREAT. Under-promise, over-deliver always makes customers happy. 9 weeks instead of 13... Awesome.
You will see that we finished up the Empennage on February 9th. So I started checking into parts again. Nope, not yet. we were Number 18 for an RV8. Late March should do it.
Then, on one of my RV lists, I saw someone order in January and get his kit in February. What's up with that? I contacted Vans and found out that his was an RV8A - a nose dragger... Back to waiting. (But now number 9 on the list)
It has now been 14 weeks (of my 13 week lead time). I have another email in to Vans to find the status. They had said that they will notify me 3 weeks or so in advance since that is the time it takes to get across the pond from Asia and up to Oregon. Right now, I assume that the 13 weeks will be at least 17 weeks.
So here I sit with nothing to do but teach other people to fly....
