Brief Description:  Trimming and Mounting Wingtips

I trimmed the wing tips to allow aileron mounting and the ailerons to clear. I ended up purchasing a Dremmel Tool to do the work - it worked great. This is probably how we will trim the canopy (but maybe with a bigger cutter).

I went on to mount the wingtips. The instructions recommend a helper. I found duct tape worked quite well and didn't get in the way. Drilling and clecoing the wing tip went quite well. I only got the one side mounted today, but the other side should go quickly now that I have a plan.

The wingtip ended up slightly torqued and doesn't align correctly with the aileron (assuming it is at neutral). I heard others had this problem. The outside trailing edge is in perfect alignment with the aileron and flap, but the inner edge is about 1/4" proud. I read somewhere that this is a common problem. The simple fix is to slot the rear of the wingtip, allowing me to twist the tip into position. From there, I will re-glass and then mount the dummy trailing rib. I guess I have to order some resin and cloth....

OK... I couldn't put down the pencil for the night. I went back out and mounted the left wing. It is torqued a little bit - but much closer than the right (1/8" or so). The second wingtip went much faster.

I ordered resin to allow both to be straightened.
